Emma graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Italian Studies and M.A.T. in Elementary Education. She went on to teach 5th grade in New York City and 4th grade in China. When Emma made Colorado her home, she spent time working for Be Local Northern Colorado, and discovered her passion for medicine and healthcare. She graduated with her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Colorado and furthered her education with special training in transgender healthcare.

Emma values working with her patients toward a common goal of bettering their overall health, physically and mentally. She practices with the mindset that health care equity is essential to treating the patient as a whole and addressing the health needs of the community. She believes everyone deserves to have access to excellent health care in a way that affirms their personal goals and their true selves.

“Health is at the core of how we experience life. Optimizing our health and well-being, as well as addressing health issues along the way, can enrich our lives and help us to be more present in each moment.” -Emma Smaldino Richardson

Emma likes to ride her bike to work, take the stairs, and do yoga, as well as play Ultimate frisbee.

“I have been playing competitive co-ed Ultimate frisbee for 12 years, and I love playing in the Fort Collins leagues and pick-up games!” -Emma Smaldino Richardson

She also enjoys cooking and making wholesome, locally-sourced, and well-rounded meals a part of every day.

“I’m half Italian, so the Mediterranean diet works its way pretty naturally into my life. Of course, I also love Thai food and pizza, but giving in to occasional cravings is a big part of staying mentally healthy too!” -Emma Smaldino Richardson

Emma additionally tries to manage stress as much as possible by taking breaks in her day and surrounding herself with people that make her happy and make her laugh.
