According to the 1893 Supreme Court ruling in the case of Nix v. Hedden, tomatoes are vegetables. However, that ruling only applied to tax law and did not attempt to reclassify tomatoes scientifically. Ask a scientist, and they are fruits. Regardless of whether you refer to them as fruits or a vegetables, tomatoes are packed full of beneficial nutrients and antioxidants and are a rich source of vitamins A and C, folic acid, and lycopene, the antioxidant that give these veggies, um…fruits, their deep red color.
