The Cooking Studio is Fort Collin’s newest culinary playground, a place for amateur cooks, the curious and professionals alike to learn, explore, and unleash their inner chef.

Ingredients are sourced locally as much as possible to support our Fort Collins Farm to Table community. Seasonality is important when sourcing ingredients and class menus will be adjusted to reflect the local harvest.

Why The Cooking Studio?

The 1950s had liberated women from the kitchen. The modern woman in the 50’s and 60’s proved she was liberated and competent by succeeding in the fast-paced world of work which she accomplished in part by serving her family fast food or something from the freezer isle. And that had unintended consequences.

Because of that movement many from my generation never learned to cook anything from our Moms or Grandmothers. In fact we learned to place a high value on processed and fast food. You would be horrified by how many frozen Weight Watchers or Lean Cuisine dinners were taken to work for lunch. Or how many ‘family sized’ entrees were purchased, defrosted and served to young, busy families.

My kids didn’t learn any cooking skills from me. In fact there were two generations in my family where no knowledge of cooking was passed on – my parents didn’t teach me and I didn’t teach my kids. Such a loss.

So now you’re wondering why I think I’m qualified to run a cooking school!?

Here’s why. I’m living proof that values can change and that palates and cooking skills can be educated. Since 2008 I have taken over 300 hours of cooking classes.  Classes at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Napa rank high among them, but classes from home cooks in their kitchens have also been fabulous. And now I know how to cook almost anything. I know what tastes good. I know if it doesn’t taste good that it almost always can be adjusted so that it does. I’ve learned to evaluate wine by observing it carefully, not judge it by it’s price or popularity.

What we will accomplish thru our thoughtful selection of classes and chef-instructors at The Cooking Studio is to get you out of your cooking rut, and introduce you to new skills (if you need them) or use your current skills on a new cuisine that you haven’t yet tried. We believe that food should be exciting and local and fun and delicious and the home-cook should be elevated to the center of our society. Maybe alongside the farmer.
