After graduating from Poudre High school, Melody attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where she majored in Native American Studies and minored in Spanish Literature. She briefly considered law school but took a break to pursue her interest in medicine and was quickly committed to making people feel better. She worked for 5 years as a medical assistant in cardiology and then as an Aide on the pediatrics floor of Poudre Valley Hospital. Melody finished PA school pre-requisites at USC and CSU before attending CU Anschutz for PA school. Her first years as a practitioner were in community health where she was able to utilize her fluency in Spanish.
Melody believes firmly in team-based medicine and open communication within that team, which includes the patient, medical provider, mental health provider, pharmacists, physical therapists, etc. Her ultimate goal is to help people feel their best physically but recognize the importance of mental wellbeing as well as spiritual.
Melody has a specific interest in the evolution of healthcare and how the best care can be provided to the community. She is passionate about decreasing health disparities that are caused by race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender status. She is also interested in cardiology and chronic disease management as it relates to healthy hearts. Perhaps, what interests her the most is preventative care. “What could be better than establishing healthy habits that assist us in preventing illnesses in the first place and of course screening tests that can catch diseases early in order for the best outcomes!”
Melody is passionate about her family and the well-being of her Northern Colorado community.
To stay healthy, Melody runs, mountain bikes, practices yoga, swims, paddleboards, hikes, and enjoys live music when she can. Having grown up in Fort Collins, she has long embraced the beauty of the foothills, the mountains, and the rivers to re-charge her batteries.
