From the Office to the Outdoors, David Jung, MD Never Stops Exploring

While Iowa native Dr. David Jung might humbly characterize himself as “a simple man,” his interests and pursuits in both his personal and professional life would beg to differ. From ambitious outdoor exploits in his new Colorado backyard to caring for patients in all stages and seasons, David’s days are defined by drive, determination, and a commitment to continuous motion.

“Whether I’m at work or outside, I like to move fast and challenge myself,” David says with a grin. “I love that with every new patient, there’s a unique situation and a fresh solution to discover,” he explains. “And the same goes for my personal hobbies. In every new season, my wife, Allison, and I have different outdoor activities and adventures that we like to explore.”

Without a doubt, the thrill seeker in David keeps him going and exploring – from downhill skiing to frequent backpacking treks and even the occasional standup paddle board attempt. “I’m still struggling to stay up on a paddle board,” he admits with a laugh. “But I really love skiing, and I try to go at least 30 days out of the year. Being from Iowa, I just love living in a place where the weather allows me to stay active and moving all year long.”

“There’s always something going on or someplace to go, Allison and I love riding our bikes to the nearby festivals, restaurants, and breweries. Plus, did I mention the weather is better here? In all seriousness though, we love everything about this area and are excited for all the adventures ahead of us.”

Yet for David, adventure isn’t limited to his outdoor expeditions. Having recently joined the Associates in Family Medicine team, he’s enjoying every exciting minute in his role as a full-spectrum family medicine doctor. “Just yesterday, I saw an eight-day-old baby and a 94-year-old man in back to back appointments,” he smiles. “With all the variety and relationships that I experience every day, there’s never a time when I’m done learning.”

Following in the footsteps of his father – a family physician for the last 35 years – David is fully embracing the ever-changing, always-intriguing, and continually challenging nature of his latest endeavor. “I wanted to be in a field where I could constantly grow and impact individual lives on the scale that my dad has done. And I’ve absolutely found that niche.”

With his unrelenting desire to overcome challenges and keep discovering – both in the office and outdoors – it’s safe to say that David has found his perfect fit here in Northern Colorado with AFM. And when he’s not treating patients, shredding through fresh powder, hitting the trails, or perfecting his paddle board balance, David spends his time venturing into the local food and craft beer scene his new FoCo home has to offer.

“There’s always something going on or someplace to go,” he says. “Allison and I love riding our bikes to the nearby festivals, restaurants, and breweries. Plus, did I mention the weather is better here?” He smirks. “In all seriousness though, we love everything about this area and are excited for all the adventures ahead of us.”
