Finance Director Is Right on “Cue”

In 2013, Associates in Family Medicine was looking for someone to head up their financial operation—someone without a healthcare background who could offer them a fresh perspective outside of the healthcare industry.

Enter Gavin Kaszynski.

Gavin’s 11 years as a finance manager for HP’s handheld and camera groups, plus his experience running his own consulting firm serving the banking, manufacturing, and agriculture industries, was (pardon the pun) just what the doctor ordered. “I’ve always had a freakishly photographic memory when it comes to numbers,” he says. “I think they appreciated that. That and the fact I’ve always been able to say the alphabet backwards without ever practicing. Hey, it’s a gift.”

Originally from Houston, Gavin met his wife Jennifer, a native Coloradoan, while in grad school in Texas. In 2006, they traded the heat and humidity of the Gulf Coast for more temperate climes of the Centennial State with its soaring mountains, endless outdoor activities, and excellent schools.

“I tell people the best BBQ in Fort Collins is at my house,” he jokes. “I’m particularly proud of my brisket because brisket is so hard to do right. It’s especially good when you pair it with a healthy side dish like coleslaw or my famous kale salad. Olive oil, lemon juice, and a lot of garlic make for a darned tasty side.”

The only thing missing, in his opinion, was barbecue. Really good barbecue—the kind of Texas-style fare he had come to know and love as a youth. “When we moved to Northern Colorado, no great barbecue places existed,” Gavin said. “So I became quite the BBQ enthusiast. I even started a blog on the subject.”

So what’s his specialty?

“I tell people the best BBQ in Fort Collins is at my house,” he jokes. “I’m particularly proud of my brisket because brisket is so hard to do right. Outside of work and his penchant for grilling, Gavin loves spending time camping, hiking, and fly fishing with his family, coaching his son Nathan’s baseball team, and supporting his daughter Tessa’s gymnastic and dance activities. He is very active in our community and is currently running for a seat on the board of the Poudre School District.
